General Objectives: 1. To facilitate a beginning level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. 2. To develop an appreciation for the beauty of Spanish artistic expression through music, books, and prose. 3. To encourage increased understanding and value for linguistic and cultural forms other than your native ones. 4. To equip and motivate you for greater service among Spanish-speaking populations. 5. To understand and appreciate what Latino culture is like in various Spanishspeaking countries. 6. To motivate and equip you to continue the life-long process of learning a new language. How Grade is Earned: test/quiz: 50% classwork: 25% participation: 25% Late Assignments: 1. 25% reduction if after agreed upon time (usually start of class) and if turned in on same day. Otherwise no late work unlesses arranged by instructor. Late Assignments due to absence: Upon returning from an excused absence, students have one day per day missed to complete missed assignments. Missed participation points can be earned with instructor given assignments, if necessary. Grading Scale: 98-100 A+ 73-77 C 93-100 A 70-72 C- 90-92 A- 68-69 D+ 88-89 B+ 63-67 D 83-88 B 60-62 D- 80-82 B 0-59 F 78-79 C+
