PHYSICAL EDUCATION SYLLABUS

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
With the successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- develop physical fitness and the recognition of it’s importance.
- develop sports skills and an appreciation of recreational activities for leisure time.
- develop desirable mental, emotional, and social skills.
- develop desirable health habits through knowledge and practice.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
- To aid in the development of such desirable personality traits as courage, initiative, perseverance, leadership, unselfishness, and the willingness to assume responsibility.
- To contribute to safety knowledge and habits for self preservation and protection of others.
- To broaden the student’s knowledge and experience in certain activities so that they may have a better understanding and appreciation of them.
GRADING:
- The student will be graded on Daily participation and attitude – 80% .Written tests – 20%.
Participation and Attitude will be based on a daily 10 point system.
4 points – dressing out / cooperation / working well with others
3 points – Participation / physical effort / demonstration of skill and knowledge
3 points – On time to class and in the gym before the bell rings
- All students will wear the issued PE uniform every time to class. Students also will be required to wear sneakers and socks. Sweatshirt and sweatpants may be worn ONLY in cold weather when we go outside. Every student will get one free pass per quarter if they forget their uniform.
- No jewelry (includes rings, earrings, and such) .
- All students will be issued a gym locker and a lock. PLEASE USE THE LOCKERS! It is the student’s responsibility to lock up all belongings. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Students are to conduct themselves as mature young adults. They should never be made fun of, bullied, or tease anyone. Remember the Golden Rule!!!
- Students should be self-disciplined. They know the rules and know when they are breaking them. I may not always tell students when points are given.
- MAKE – UPS
When students have an absence or nurse/ doctors excuse that day must be made up. Students will have a choice of THREE options to make up the day missed: ALL MAKE UP WORK MUST BE TURNED IN ONE WEEK AFTER THE ABSENCE.
· · The student may attend an athletic game held on campus. The instructor will designate the games the students can choose.
· · The student may do some type of exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes away from school (go on a walk, mow the yard, etc.) There must be a signed note by a parent confirming the exercise.
· · The student may write min. 300 words, the history of a sport of choice. Students may not write about the same sport twice.
- Any student with an injuries or illness that is more than 3 days long will need to bring a doctor’s note. All students will still need to dress out, so they can be used as a scorekeeper, or do light exercise if possible. Any student with a long- term injury or illness will be required to do written work to receive a passing grade.
8. All students will get 4 minutes at the beginning of class to dress out and find their seats. Students will get 10 minutes at the end of class to dress out and be back in the gym before the bell rings for their next class. All students must be in the gym before the bell rings at the end of class! Each student will get one free pass per quarter for being late.
WRITTEN TESTS (2 PER QUARTER) 20% OF GRADE
- Written tests will cover rules, strategy, safety, and any information on handouts.
- Tests will be graded based on the school’s grading scale. Cheating of any kind will result in a zero, along with parent and administration notification.
- Extra credit will be used at a minimal.
