Tonya Mechling, the enthusiastic 1st & 2nd grade teacher, is beginning her 7th year at RVAA. Tonya was born and raised in beautiful North Idaho. She spent much of her childhood teaching & tutoring her younger siblings. Tonya felt God call her into the field of teaching, and she graduated from the University of Idaho in 1999 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was in a thriving Adventist school in Southern Texas. Tonya loved the warm weather and tropical flora; however, she missed her extended family. She moved back to the Northwest in 2003 and became the 3rd & 4th grade teacher at RVAA. When she stepped onto the RVAS campus, she knew that God’s presence abounded here! She loves working with the parents & school community. Her greatest desire is to lead her students to Jesus. Tonya and her husband, Tyson, enjoy the great outdoor amenities offered in Southern Oregon. They love to take their two Chinese pugs (Winston & Penelope) on amazing hikes throughout the valley.

Tonya is passionate about learning and enjoys taking graduate classes whenever possible. She hopes to impart her desire for lifelong learning upon her students. She appreciates the quote by Abigail Adams,

“Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence” (1780).

Tonya believes that she is making a difference in her students’ lives, and she wants her students to find Jesus. She believes that they will find Him at RVAA. “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
