In 1995, upon graduating from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Kim Cornette began her teaching career at a one-teacher multi-grade Christian school in North Bend, Oregon. Coordinating the instruction for all grade levels allowed Mrs. Cornette to discover her niche – working with the middle school and junior high students. After interviewing at RVAA, Mrs. Cornette was invited to join the staff in the fall of 1998 as the primary teacher for grades 7 & 8.

Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Cornette has endeavored to be a cutting edge teacher, keeping abreast of current issues, trends, and best practices in education. She is a trainer for Tribes, a process for increasing cooperation and fostering community in schools and classrooms. She has also had training in brain-based learning, the Multiple Intelligences, and other methods for teaching in ways that students are best able to learn.

Mrs. Cornette has been married since 1995, and in 2002, her son, Jairen, was born. Since that time, Mrs. Cornette has taught part time at RVAA and is currently sharing the responsibility of the Junior High students’ instruction primarily with Mrs. Spelber. Mrs. Cornette also has a young son, Jaiden, and two older daughters, Breianna, age 10, and Jordawn, age 8, who joined the Cornette family in the summer of 2009.

Mrs. Cornette’s foremost goal as a Christian teacher is to live for Christ. It is her hope that she may, through example and through her lessons, point students to God. In addition, Mrs. Cornette strives to foster responsibility in her students as well as to provide the best possible opportunity for her students to learn the content in the subject areas she teaches.
